SARDINIA IN PICTURES June 11-21, 2013

Sardinia- This section contains   pictures, and a Wiki link to more info on Sardinia.

Dan and I on Sea Star mobile- as above. We spent
eleven warm wonderful and days for farms, food, wine, cheese, beach, mountains and curvy riding on the paved and unpaved roads throughout Sardinia mostly riding within a few kms of coastline and lots of km of twisty riding.

Two especially great motorcycle roads; Iglesias to Arbus on West Coast, about 80 km and a ride through the green mountainous central region with absolutely no one around.

We rode the ferry to Sardinia, from Liverno on mainland Italy, to Aranci.  We rode south down the East Coast and left from Porto Torres to Barcelona on another ferry.   This saved Dan driving on the mainland to Barcelona and was easy on the bike.

From blog maps

This non- interactive (you can't zoom in) map shows the island of Sardinia. Yellow markers are places we stayed or visited.  I included the scale of miles for this 250km in length island. Our 11 days were filled with many twisty kilometers of riding!  The two boats represent our arrival from mainland Livorno from the east and departure from Porto Torres to Barcelona from the north.

2013 Sardinia east coast
Here we are in Liverno and ready to board the Corsica Ferry, secure our red beemer and sleep our way to Sardinia.

A place to spend the night if you can sleep with the engines grinding but quite posh and fun.

Arriving to Gilfo Aranso

Dan and I have sailed by Corsica Ferry.  We begin our tour looking for our arranged Agritourismo along the east coast of Sardinia.

Here we are at our first agritourismo.  For our 35 Euro we get a room and dinner. We stayed only one day so we could see as much as possible of the island.

We explore Nuraghi mysterious shapes that date from the Bronze Age

Of course we stop and see every marina along the way.  Here is a new way to us of securing your boat allowing tides and movement.

Distance views are amazing!

Another special agritourismo couple.

A good link if you want more information on history, culture and present day Sardinia.

Another agritourismo.  This one had a very popular restaurant and the best food we had -but that was hard to judge- I call it the Maria place because
here I am with the Marias.  The older lady took me by the hand and showed me her farm with pride..

Another gorgeous agritourismo near St. Catherines

And here we are heading to Barcelona, Spain on a larger ferry with lots of vacationers.

Impromto music

Soon we will arrive at Barcelona, Spain.
